Hey guys,

The time has come to start looking at options for rear tyres for the SL.

Currently on P Zero all around. I am wondering do I stick to P Zero or go for something "better"? If I was to make a jump, it would probably be to Michelin Pilot Super Sports.. (Are these PS2?)

I don't know where to start. The only time I changed tyres in the past was on the E Class, which was going from plastic to P Zero and the different with the difference being night and day.

That said, i'm not sure there is much different to be had at the higher end, is there?

I guess the question is, are the Michelins worth the extra £70?

I had P Zero's on my last car, a W204, and I found them quite noisy. The car before that, again a W204, had Michelin, although they were Primacy's. They were OK, quiet enough but not so good in the wet. I guess a lot will depend on your style of driving.

On my current W205 I inherited Nexen Fera SU1's, they were factory fit. I was a little dis-appointed at first and a little sceptical. But they have turned out to be OK for my style as I am not a boy racer any more. The most notable thing about them is that they are quiet and the car has now done 15,000 miles on them and there is still 5mm left on them. I am not suggesting that they will be right for you but just saying that it may not be necessary to fire all of the money at a set of tyres. :)

Thanks Andy

This is the thing. It's easy to get caught in the money, quality trap.. and the Pilot Super Sports are one of the most expensive tyre.

That said, noise is a consideration with a convertible. I may try the Pilot Super Sports, just to see what they are like.

I had Goodyear Eagle F1 fitted to the rears of mine. They are marked MB. They've been on a few months now and seem fine. Wearing OK and dry and wet roadholding seems fine.

Bought mine from Blackcircles with local fitting.

Continentals here, sometimes I fit Michelins, depending what the tyre shop have. Both are fine.
