If not the aerial then two further points:

1) The central aerial lead core wire is prone to break at the 90 degree bend where it connects to the radio.

2) If you have a rear screen mounted aerial (within the screen heater matrix) then the amplifier in the C pillar may have failed.

I found one of the spring "fingers" in the aerial plug bent down inside shorting to the centre pin. No AM and poor FM. Worth checking before you buy new amps.

It would help to know what car it is?
Agreed, quite a few have Ae Amps in the boot so worth checking if that was working. On my W211 the radio reception was very poor with the rear screen heater on in damp weather. The solution was a new rear screen.

Checking continuity of the aerial wires is forst stop.

If the car has ever had an aftermarket radio fitted then this is the likely culprit.

Tell us what car it is and we can tell you where the aerial amp is fitted.

Are you sure that the radio hasn't been removed at some point?

It sounds to me as if the inner core of the aerial co-ax is broken, quite possibly within the connector to the back of the radio.

If not there then there then the break will be elsewhere, as it's a hatch back - most likely near the rear hatch hinge.

The inner core is very fragile and easily broken (its only a very thin, single strand.) You can either attempt a repair or replace the coax with something a little sturdier.

No it won't fit as the system on the 211 is completely different to the 203.

I would speak with Alfie at Comand.co.uk and see what kind of deal he can put together for you for the right unit for your car.
I'm looking at a Pioneer or Kenwood double din sat nav system for our Caravelle and the Kenwood appears to be winning the fight at the moment. Both ~1K
