Ruling against the fitment of pops and bangs : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/cons...market-exhausts-fined-landmark-court-case?amp

I have nothing against the likes of cars that have some nice crackles or, are loud from the factory or, old super cars that sound simply glorious even into the distance but, I’m glad to see something like this for the trend where it’s done to simply obnoxious extremes because someone is deluded thinking it’s cool.

The Mini I bought a little while back as a non runner had this to the extreme. When I finally decided to have a git and start the non runner (flat battery) it banged, farted and popped so bad, I fitted new plugs, maf sensor thing to no avail. Look through service history booklet.......yes bang, pop etc remap from a well known mini centre

Perhaps the same can be done for the outfits that illegally tint front windows… it’s usually the same type of customer who has both.

Agreed, I’d crush them at the side of the road - the driver can get out if they want to but they don’t have to…;)
I’d also hang people who litter from gallows on street corners… wonder how many you’d have to “process” before it all stopped?:rolleyes:

Related to the new spelling of King Canute.

I saw a Bam Tram going through Egham High Street on and off the throttle, sounded like a badly tuned banger racer.

there are a couple of Focus ST's in my town that are ridiculously loud , setting car alarms off etc , im all for that lovely crackle on over run but some just go waaaaay too far , is this policeable the real world ? the rozzers already ignore a good percentage of crime so i cannot see this being enforced properly

Whilst the prosecution might dissuade some firms from doing the mods I fear the majority won’t care and continue with a profitable business model.
And waiting for the police to something might take some time. I still see people openly using mobile phones whilst driving so the law hasn’t been effective on that yet!

The new cameras they’re putting up will stop the mobile usage…

In 1983 I got pulled over by a Copper driving the wife's Escort with Lotus engine and twin webbers for excessive exhaust noise.
He asked me to rev the car up while he stood at the back to listen. There was virtually no exhaust note come out the back. So he then proceeded to inform me that the exhaust was shot and I have to have it repaired. I told him I had just come from the exhaust centre after having a brand new system fitted, then showed him my reciept for £150. He huffed, then told me to open the bonnet, I think he was determined to nick me on anything else. He ask me again to rev it up. Yes it was noisy because it was fitted with 'ram tubes' instead of air cleaners.......jobs worth  Nowadays, it's too much paperwork

Some motorbikes round here you can hear for miles. I believe the owners just swap the exhaust for straight pipes, five minute job. Sounds awful.
