couldn't sleep because i keep giggling........remembering when i was knocked down on Putney Bridge by a robin reliant.....it's true .....late 1960's(when i was a young lady) crossing Putney Bridge by the traffic lights, which were red, a policeman on the corner on opposite side of bridge was talking to a pedestrian- driver in the robin reliant was so busy looking at the policeman he started driving forward and hit me- i was very embarrased-not by the fact that i was run over - but because it was a robin reliant:Oops:. The worst thing was it was in the wandsworth borough news. Fortunately i had only minor injuries-cuts and scrapes to knees - and no - there was not a tyre mark running down the middle of my body. Still giggling.........

I remember reading in one of the DIY motring magazines many moons ago about a guy who had a new pit put in his garage and one sunday morning a neighbour came round asking if he could use it as his exhaust was falling off,,, it was only moments later when he realised that the guy had a reliant robin and he ran out just in time to see the guy nosedive into the pit..

My dad had a Reliant fer years we used to call it " Dad's Land Crab!!!!....God the funny things my Dad got up to, he rolled one over hit a Land Rover with another, Skidded into a lamp post.................

Funnyest thing though was after he'd passed away My Mum asked me to "Get Rid of it" so I chucked it on E-bay.....

My Mum & Dad lived in Lymm & I lived in Fleetwood so I collected it & proceeded to drive it back .................I was absolutly thrashing the arse off it coming over from Bolton to Blackburn all of a sudden there was a huge bang

I'd blown the Core plugs out of it, it STILL ran all the way home though.

Funny as FU*K was that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When some friends of mine used to attend accidents on the motorways involving one of these things,,all they needed was a broom to sweep away the remains and pull the engine to the side of the road,,one or two lorries driving through it soon took care of the rest

saw one burst into flames in Wolverhampton in the early 70's, the driver just rolled out of the door and let the ****** thing carry on down the road until it could go no further, the front tyre exploded, stopping it. I was rolling around in laughter whilst the poor sod of a driver was in tears on the side of the road, cruel really:lol::lol:

Yes,they were joke cars, left over from the time when not many had a car licence and three wheeled cars could be driven on a motorbike licence.
Not so amusing when in a bump.

During my time in the police,I went to three accidents involving these cars.
In each accident, someone in the Reliant died and no one in the other vehicles was injured.
Two out of the three were caused by the Reliant joining a main road into the path of a clearly visible oncoming vehicle.
In one out of the three, the oncoming vehicle was a large BMW and the Reliant was spread over about 150 metres of the road,as were its occupants.

Sorry,I couldn't think of anything funny to say:-(
I'm pleased there aren't many left.

Regards,
Nick.

Absolute death traps, driven by either A - people too lazy to take a car test after getting a bike licence or B - people who are not capable of passing a driving test, there is a bloke near me with one, and he is a bl**dy menace, if there is a tailback of traffic he is usually at the front of it, he manages to hold up tractor drivers and cyclists!!! I am with Nick, glad there aren't many left!!
