Have c 180 sport (1998 ) and it has developed a tendency to lose its revs every now and then. When slowing down or idling the revs drop right away and car stalls. If you turn the engine off and restart the problem goes away until next time. When this idling problem occurs the cruise control doesnt work either.Thought it migh of been the air mass sensor which was replaced 4 months ago but this has been checked out.Anyone , any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!

I reckon the idle control valve is the first place to look, try cleaning it out with some carb cleaner. That doesn't explain the lack of cruise... one thing at a time though.

I grew up in Kings Lynn - it was cold and stank of sugar beet around this time of year :)

Perhaps it doesn't have one, in which case it's probably the C-class's favourite problem - the mass airflow sensor. There are numerous threads about this (do a search), sometimes cleaning it with IPA can resolve the problem.
