I have FMBSH but I wont anymore as there is little if anything to gain from the extra costs now.

After a certain number of years the advantages diminish considerably. Personally I think well worthwhile for first 4 years -some say 6. After that matter of choice.

Good point. It is a bit like choosing whether to buy an extended warranty or not. For each of there will be some arguments appeal, and some which jar. That will be coloured by our own experience, and by our financial means. But for us, the choice we make will have been made for a reason.

For the first owner of a car, I think the range of 4 to 6 years with a dealership is probably sensible. Having said that, I don't and I have not had cause to regret my strategy.

For those buying a car age 4 or more, the equation will be different.
