I am a new female visitor to the site, so please be patient.

I have a 2001 SLK 230 which I bought second hand from a main dealer in Glasgow in 2003, (I don't live there).

I am worried about a patch of rust on my bonnet, do I have any rights with the dealer? I don't have a current MB warranty.

As a recovering Alfa driver I am keen to keep the wee car as it hasn't given any other trouble so far.

Just under 100k on the clock.

If it has a full MB service history take it to your nearest dealer and enquire there, they will often pay in full for these repairs, or offer a significant contribution.

Rusty 2001 E Class

I have a 2001 E220CDi purchased from a main dealer in 2003. Most panels have rust particularly wheel arches, bonnet and front wings where the bumper and wing meet. Generally a mess.
Had the stuff about paint thickness being different all over the car from another main dealer so have now spoken to the dealer who supplied.
They have told me to send photographs, copy of V5, chassis number etc and service history. The history is not main dealer but an independant who, I am informed by the dealer, is not "approved".
Having read through the various posts it is clear that there is a problem with rusty Mercs and it is pot luck as to whether dealers are interested.

Anyone know a dealer in the East Midlands who will be prepared to accept responsibility for a rusty Merc?

Can the dealers refuse to do anything because the car has not been serviced by a main dealer?

Like many posts I am seriously considering not buying another Merc.

any advice will be appreciated.

Brian, I had very good service from MB Bedford bodyshop. I have had my car serviced by an independent for the last three years.
