Hi All,
I have had rust on my car for sometime now but i'm getting increasingly concerned now as it is growing bigger.

They are in 2 places, located on the offside ( underside) and both are about 2inches in diameter. I'm not even going to consider going to MB because the car is 14yrs old and might not be covered under the rust warranty.

My question is has anyone tackled rust successfully and how did they go about it?

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Sway.

There's no absolute DIY rust stopping treatment that works for all time, but if you keep at it you can hold it.
As per my sig, one car's 23 years old so I have to have an annual routine. I use something called 'Bondaprimer' after wirebrushing thoroughly, then restore with body colour aerosol on any top parts like wheel arches. Nowadays I tend not to recoat the underside, just leave the primer so I can see what's taking place, but in fairness the car does mostly dry milage these days. For a daily drive you'd need a non- cracking chassis paint rather than cheap underseal.
If you keep at it and wash under the wheel arches after runs on winter salted roads you can hold it all together better than you'd imagine. I don't aim to be a perfectionist, I just get the old rust off and something else in its place.

there is also a paint system called por 15 available from frost auto restoration (www.frost.co.uk) it's not cheap but i found is good i used it on my nissan sports car i think the stuff i bought was about £80 for 3 products, i bought s205 metal ready which you spray on keep the rust damp with the liquid 30 mins or so and it dries to a cold galvanised finish, i then used the rust preventative paint and chassis black over the top takes some time but can say no sign of any rust coming back through yet
