hi

our clk is starting to rust under the paint at both rear wheelaches, its a 99 model, so will the warranty still cover that??? is it a common problem having rust on the clk??

warranties will cover no rust work at all, its classed as wear and tear so instantly void of free work, what i suggest is taking it to a garage and getting them to sort it sooner rather than later, will be cheaper now than leaving it, as if its left too long the metal may rot all the way through leaving areas to be welded up, now its probably a rub and re spray!

Incorrect, with MB service history, have the dealer check the vehicle. they will then decide if the rust is due to untreated stone chips which they will not cover or down to internal rust which they will cover. There are many threads on rust so pls have a seach

actually yeah your right sorry, i have heard of some cases on other vehicles where rust has started ona new vehicle ere it has started from a imperfection in spray job but on a car of that age i wouldnt think this would be valid i maybe wrong, but get it checked, it wo cost anything to ask!

Its rarer on a clk though certainly not unheard of. Allegedly they won't argue if it's up to 8 years old, and may well cover it even without FMBSH so certainly worth a trip to your local dealer.

I have just got mine back today from MB, had both rear arches done and a new front wing. Not paid a penny, although not very impressed with the rust on a car thats 5 years old, poor customer service too !

cheers for all the infos. cetainly never thought of a CLK can rust like it is. Not a 6-7 years old car.
With all the information, i can have a good arguement with the dealer if they refuse to repair it under warranty.

You have a strong case as mine was sorted under this.
It is a W202 C250TD registered 1998. Rust on doors etc
The 8 year rule is true. 4 yrs standard then provided a full service history Merc give a goodwill gesture for further 4 yrs.
Had mine done Dec 05

I have a 1990 w124 te estate, and yes it does have a few blemishes, but I have seen a lot newer cars with worse corrosion than mine. I think standards have gone down somewhat.
Hope you have some luck at the dealers.
Regards
John
