It all is a shame,,prevention is always better than any cure, and everyone would have been better off,,a system that prevails now of pot luck, as to whether your car gets fixed is not very good, and should not be affected by any recession, as that is nothing to do with the car going rusty

Sadly, you are quite correct Malcolm. The topic of rust has had a corrosive effect on the reputation of MB, and on the Forum.

It is not merely the rules (what was in and what was out, and when) but the way that they are being applied that is damaging to the MB Brand.

As was rehearsed in a separate thread, the service manager should automatically seek to represent the interests of the customer. No invitation or blandishment should be required.

It is interesting that there is now a mention of "further rustproofing measures" at the time of servicing. I don't think these are mentioned in the service schedule, but it is clearly a step in the right direction.

If such a practice is introduced successfully, it will at least give some logic for the need for a FMBSH being demanded before claims for corrosion will be entertained.

I think that MB should put a warning in the handbooks

" failing to attend to a microscopic stone chips on your Mercedes motor car will quickly turn into huge rusty unsightly scars as we only use cheap recycled steel in the construction of our cars" or in the show rooms on the display boards put on a " this car is liable to rust badly" say a system like with the energy used on appliances

A means will not rust too badly.
B This car is pot luck it may or may not go rusty.
C Not for use in wet area's.
E This model will soon rust all over

That would work:D:D

It would be a lie if they did as they do not "only use cheap recycled steel".

Got any proof of your wilder statements?

Neutrality

Gentlemen,

I remain available to hold jackets and to dress minor flesh wounds.

Not the cheapest, but the best.

AMG. :neutral::neutral::neutral::neutral::neutral:

Malc are you talking about post 2005 MB's or pre 2005 MB's? Lately it seems like people are saying that modern MB's still rust and have poor build quality.

If the metal is poor quality then all the galvanizing in the world will not help,,it may hold it at bay for a little,,but it will come back

Good quality steel also rusts if not fully protected.

There are plenty of 210's with no rust and there is no evidence yet given that poor quality steel is involved.

Well then what is the reason then, rust killed off lancia,,it did a lot of damage to fiat / Citroen some years back,,and they had to stop using poor recycled steel.

You cannot blame the paint, as the same process is used on all cars.

Then Hawk what is it,,you seem to argue the point, so you tell us,,is it the metal or the painting.

Also when was the last time that you spent a few hours in dealing with the rust problem
