I have a patch about a 50p size at the lip of the rear wheel arch. What the best way to keep it at bay for good?

I tried Hammerlite back in the 80s and it a total waste of time and money.

Wonder what the white stuff undercoat Merc used? Can I use house undercoat paint?

Has the technology make any advancement to fight against rust?

Thought I read it somewhere to rub off the rust until you see metal, if I do that there will be no metal left.

Any tips from rust expert or call it the day after I had it for 12 years from new?

You could use a rust converter,, that will be the min of damage and work, provided the rust is not alive (black) then Hamerite should work ok bu at least two coats then Waxoil on the inside all around the arch

I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel to grind off the rust on the wheelarch of my 202. Make sure you get back to shiny metal, then prime with a couple of coats of zinc primer and paint.

just as above, only way to be sure is to remove rust back to metal then fill if needed and prime / paint. after several repairs on my shogun with hammerite, the rust just keeps coming back. i would do it now why you still have metal to work with, gets more difficult when you have to start adding material to make up what has rotted away.

I bought an aerosol can of Wayoyl and sprayed it just inside the wheel arches edges. Is this adequate and how long do I have to wait for it to dry before I can use the car again(hopefully it will remain dry tomorrow). Another Hammerite product!. I hope it works. Not very friendly to the environment.

There was foam like scum forming around the nozzle. What wrong? Didn't I shake the can long enough before use?

Hey, someone else trying to keep the 'scabs' at bay! Doesn't it make you sick, we love our quality vehicles, keep em looking nice but they rust don't they?

Basically, tin worm never sleeps - one tip I can pass on, especially under the front arches, is to coat the inner surface with the stickiest grease you can lay your hands on every couple of months. Mucky job I know, but anything you can do to keep the wet from laying about anywhere is well worth doing.

Not a good idea DoverSole as grease absorbs water,, dont believe me,,take a look in a boot that has holed or a wheel bearing the has let water in

Point taken - however this was recommended by a top flight bodywork pal. It worked for me, front wheel arches are rust free and smooth. I guess it matters which type of grease also - mine's lithium based, just need to keep the kids fingers away, but i agree it's not the answer for every application.
