Hi all
I have just had a new battery tray fitted to my 2003 c270 cdi sallon. Apparently the water channels on the inner flitch around the battery were blocked so consiquently the area was awash with water, the battery tray bolts were so corroded Benz had to use a specialist to remove them!. It is worth checking this area periodically as leaves can collect quite easily in this area as well as in the plastic scuttle panel at base of windscreen. I personally think its a bad design to have a plastic tray cover the battery with 2 open drain holes allowing the water to fall all around the battery.

I also have a problem when it rains the windscreen immediately mists up (had new screen fitted 2 years ago) I have to use the screen clear button all the time to stop it misting also dash mists as well, have noticed a gap between the plastic scuttle panel at bottom of screen so if water is running between this panel and screen where does the water go? should this panel be sealed with a double sided tape or something?

Your comments please

Thanks

Hello Brian,,this is hard without a photo,,I can check on the screen fitting instructions or look at a 203 next weekend,,it certainly looks as though water is getting in where it should not,, you could also ask a screen fitter

It looks like electrolyte overflowed. Make sure the overflow tube is directed to drain outside not within the car.

If there are electrolyte within the car bodywork, clean it with running water as soon as possible else it will rust the bodywork.

Thanks for your replies, excuse my ignorance, what is"Electrolyte"?

Have spoken to Mbenz they say the plastic panel running the width of the screen is not sealed, the water can run between the panel and screen and finds its way to the drain holes!!!! I shall have a look at this just in case there is another blocked drain under the panel
Mbenz say it is quite normal for the screen to mist up when it rains as the heater draws in damp air, they advised I should use the air conditioning at all times to prevent car from misting up. The screen will not de-mist without the air conditioning on, my old Ford Sierra de-mists without air conditioning!
