hi i have a 2003 sl 500, as title suggests i want to replace the rusty screws (see pic, red circles) with new ones, does anybody know if i can just simply unscrew one at a time and replace the old with new? or is it more involved than that, e.g they will release a part of of position etc?

thanks

Can't speak for the (if any) problems of replacement , but can't you clean them up with a dremmel and one of their many attachments . Or just rustproof and paint them. I bet it's only surface stuff .

Those front callipers are the same as on my ML, which also had rusted bolts. What i did was .........
First, ordered off ebay new Calliper stickers (very cheap)
Cleaned up rust with a wire brush in a drill, then an even smaller wire brush in a dremmel. Then rubbed down all the silver part of calliper. Next, with a small brush, painted on a decent rust undercoat (grey Zinc) just on the bolts, when dry, painted bolts with black smooth hammerite. Then brushed the rest of calliper with thinned silver hammerite, applied new stickers when dry.

They looked like new, 6 months later still look good.

There is a chance of either breaking them off, or creating a brake fluid leak. As suggested I'd leave them in, clean and paint them.

IMG_20180512_133748.jpg I've only just seen this thread and it's probably too late now but this is how mine came out with just cleaning and brush painting.
