S-Class paint finish - really?

I was having a good look at a new S-Class when I was at the main dealers recently. I couldn't believe the finish of the paintwork. Orange peel? More like the surface of a Jaffa! I would have expected more of a mirror shine on this "Flagship" saloon. I have a 2011 W221 and the finish on mine is really nice. It is Diamond White which might help disguise any orange peel look but even so. Looks like Mercedes is going backwards in their paint finish quality?

Here's a close up of the reflection. The "lines" should be reasonably "crisp".

Oh dear! I’d expect to get a better finish with a rattle can - something has obviously gone very wrong at the factory.

Reminds me of a Hormann motorised sectional garage door my daughter had fitted to her garage, they were moving production to a new factory at the time, after six months rust spots started to appear through the white finish and on closer inspection it was swarth trapped beneath the paint, very much not up to German standards. We complained to the UK supplier and the whole double garage door was replaced within a month. Not so sure this would happen with the S Class…

I see some horrendous orange peel on New MB's. It does seem random though, some are not bad at all.

I’ve seen it for year on many brands tbh.

Not acceptable at all in my book on any car!

Lots are painted in between the docks and the dealer forecourt, could be one of those.

Not unusual , especially with the darker colours. I noticed it a few years ago on an unregistered navy blue S class in a Glasgow showroom , the entire car looked like it was painted a the Tangerine academy for Automotive paint.

Absolutely shocking finish on what , at that time was around a £70k vehicle.

Maybe krouts moved to zero hrs contracts? Or the AI needs an update!!! Question really is how it make it past QC and that WOULD bother me as like, wots the QC like where one CANT see. If it's electronic pts I already know, China shixe and hope warranty lasts....
