I own a 1995 4.2 S Class W140 and it appears to have developed a slight vibration/ judder when driving from cold. It is similar to a wheel balance judder but is not consistant. it feels if it MAY be coming from the from end but can not be totally sure. As I said it is NOT always present leading me to believe it is not the wheels. Can anyone help/advise me on what it may be please.

Thanks for your quick reply. It doesn't feel like a misfire, the dizzy cap has been recently relaced.

Ok tyres should ok then, some people fit huge alloys on the w140 and the rim buckle.

Any noise to go with the vibration ?

This is a long shot,,but are the tyres at the correct pressure,,I am thinking that if they are standing over night are they deforming, and take a while to warm up, and get to the correct shape. There are very few things that can only cause the fault from cold

Id put it down to tyres too Malcolm. Or the dizzy caps are little damp on a cold start.

Thanks for your thoughts...just a worrying thought of mine and not owning a W140 for very long... could it be a vibration from the auto box..maybe slipping, I don't know why I am even thinking of the autobox area as it changes up and down without any problems.....by the way the mileage is only 140,000 miles and the fluid is clear.

This is nothing to do with the box or propshaft,,it would do it all of the time. one of the engine mounts may be low

Phew......thats a relief, I was thinking way off line then.
Do these suffer from dizzy cap problems as i have just looked up in the history and it's had 2 replacements already!?

If it does not do it when you are not pulling, the possibly tyres, if it pulls from a low speed Ok its not electrics, you can check this by changing gear when the fault starts
