"What Car" gave the S Class diesel the best luxury award for the third year running, saying no short cuts, the finest materials and scrupulous attention to details

I think that is down to individual dealers. MB Bedford have been very good in sorting out the rust problems on my older S.

?How can that be ? so are you saying one dealers say so/ influence is more than another, are not all claims submitted to mbuk and the say is with them ?

I have heard it said more than one time on this forum, if you don't get any joy at one dealers , try another.

But I am a realist and I guess if someone has bought say one new s from them, had it serviced with them, and they think they may buy another, "preferential treatment" !

I don't intend to winge on this forum, if my rust problems are not sorted, I will try the direct approach to mbuk.

well my 02 S600 is in the body shop at the moment & they sent me a picture by phone to show a plate had been fitted at some time on the bottom of the back door?? This is common according to them as they all rust & is simpler to fit a plate than a new door, but its only 6 years old?? Where else is rust gonna appear in the next 6:(:(

Perhaps a poll with these issues ? how many have had success, against how many have not ?

And congratulations to Mercedes Benz on finally making a good car ?

I will have to save a little harder lol

To be honest I have no idea how the MB system works. I did not buy my car from this dealer and do not have it serviced by them so there is no question of preferential treatment. However I did try another dealer beforehand but they could not be bothered with my claim.
I can understand your frustration with the situation and hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.

The Mb system works on customer loyality to the brand, The qualifying factors are , car under 8 yrs old, full MB service history = preferential treatment and rust repairs will be sorted.. a part Mb history and car under 8yrs old, they will attempt to fob you off, a second try at another dealer or to customer service will normally get the repairs done.
Outside 8yr. warranty and it is really a matter for the dealer/bodyshop and customer service, but first attempt will always register..computer says no..

And customer service will always confer with the bodshop estimator who looked at your car.
If you are going to the bodyshop/dealer to have your car inspected, make sure that you askwhat the procedure is for submitting a claim, and regardless if the estimator thinks your claim will not be satisfied, insist that he takes digital pics and lodges a claim on your behalf. If he refuses ask to speak to the bodyshop manager, and remind them that you are dealing with MBUK and that it is part of their remit to submit a claim on your behalf..

Many thank's for your replys, and I realise that this thread is supposed to be praising the new S class.

Peronally speaking I prefer my shape to the new, also my interior, also a straight six as oppposed to a v6 diesel that is.

My car is 6 years old, part main dealer service, last 3 merc trained specialist, myself, bodyshop man and Merc garage inspected the car all paint thickneses are normal.

Through coming on here I have gained some insight as to what to expect.

But I will not take no for an answer ! I do belive my model when first sold was supposed to be and I quote "The best diesel car in the world "

Come on MBUK, Do the right thing !

daft as it sounds, it might be worth banging your car in for a service at a dealer (when its due) and asking them to do a corrosion check whilst it's in. Let them find the rust and offer to make a claim. Suddenly you're a valued customer again....
I know loyalty is a big thing with MBUK. Allegedly, when faced with a no, my dealer has used the fact that he has me and my Dad as long standing customers. Me driving my 3rd merc and my Dad his 6th. So far, we've always ended up with a yes.

This is excellent psychology. Works well with the wife - let her have the bright idea and then watch her talk me into it. It's probably the strongest aspect of my engineering portfolio.

Not everyone has one of those "her indoors" things and you end up talking to your self:confused:
