S204 2008 Rear Bumper Offside Square Hole

I have this on the rear of my car, it used to have a tethered clip-in cover matching the car colour, often came unclipped but the tether kept it attached - and now it's gone. I thought it was the attachment point for the towing eye, like on the front, but it's not and I have no idea what I'm seeing behind it, so 2 questions :

1. What's it covering? Looks like a wide slotted lump of black metal!

2. Can a replacement be bought - if so what's the name/part number?

I've tried a couple of part number sites but can only find the whole bumper complete with hole! It's a 204.208 c220Cdi.

Is it Item # 12 in the diagram below?
If so its the towing eye cover, Any of the 4 Part'#s shown should fit.
The saloon has different Part #s so wont fit.

I expected it to be a towing eye cover like part 12 (which looks like what I need, so thanks for that!), but if it was I'd see a threaded circlar hole for the towing eye to screw into - and I don't! It's a horizontal slit in a beefy chunk of black metal, I'll try to get a decent photo of it tomorrow.
