Took the plunge back into Mercedes ownership a few months ago (just can't keep away..) and am gradually working through the fixes on a 2002 S210 Avantgarde estate (well Alex Crow is mostly).
One little problem that should be simple enough for me to fix is the light fitting underneath the glovebox that illuminates the front passenger footwell.
Mine is now duff (probably- not certain what should activate it), but I understand that only the whole unit can be replaced, not just the LED bulb, and I don't fancy just chucking £30 or 40 at Mercedes.
As it was easy to do, I removed the unit (it pulls out easily) and managed to dismantle it - see attached pics (hopefully) below - without breaking anything, so it reassembles.
Does anyone know of an led that might fit, even maybe with a bit of bodging/soldering?

Regs,

Adrian

My footwell lights come on with the exterior lights. The original ones were so dim that for a while I didn't even know I had them.

My first attempt to improve them was to buy some 12v yellow LEDs, drill holes in the plastic to hold them and solder them to the existing pins once the small circuit board was pulled off. See first pic. These still weren't bright enough so I then bought LED panels similar to this one: (can't find the actual ones I used)

They fitted neatly in the existing holders into which I also fitted a piece of yellow film to get the correct colour to match the other ambient lighting. Again I just soldered the connections. Second pic shows them in action. I subsequently decided they were too bright(!) so an easy fix was to cover half the holder in black plastic tape. I'm happy with them now. :)

btw, they aren't monitored so no worries about 'CANBUS' compatibility (well, at least on my car).
