Finally, the ****** thing has arrived from Germany..

Initial impressions, are that it's ****** chunky compared to the old skinny rubbish & a good thing...

Not cheap £300 exchange & I've got to send back the old wheel...

OLD :

Side by Side : notice how rubbish the old leather has become...

And new one Fitted :

I'll take a better pic tomorrow, however I'm quite happy with it, it will take some getting used to, but it just makes the driving position feel a bit more "manly" lol :D

The only fly in the ointment was that the paddles supplied are the later plastic ones which only allow - or + changes on one side only, my older S211 paddles allowed both on each side, but I couldn't transfer them, as the slots on the back of the wheel weren't right :(

I've got to check if they work... but since reconnecting the battery I've had no codes, and I can shift up / down the box using the lever, but not the paddles ( I assume they only work when you are on the go )....

I'll sort that later....

Hope you enjoy :)

Looks good, I thought that was cheap, fitted a lot of new steering wheels, always far more money than that.......

Indeed, this one was a bit more than £300 .. Although mine was an outright purchase.

_taz_ that is a great looking wheel. How does it feel to steer as the wheel is not round?

I saw a post of yours where you said you turned a corner and the car was in a very low gear and you thought that you touched a button behind the wheel, the same thing happened to me yesterday, I did not touch a button as I was not using that hand.

excuse the hyjack

I managed to do that yesterday evening. Wasn't expecting to drop a gear as I turned a corner!
Another thread hijack...........sorry.

@Taz...I like that wheel. Looks far nicer than the original.

Soz folks, cycled out to the local...

I'll drive out tomoz & report back....

If it's like My Audi A6 wheel ( another custom flat bottom conversion ), it's very very nice to drive with...

can't explain really but it's just so much nicer :D

Merc really do up the central bolt tight !

I am happy & when I do sell her on ( for my S class ), I'm sure the next owner will be pleasantly delighted...

Glad you folks liked it, as it can be a marmite thing really...

I still have to return my old wheel, so it's not that cheap, but hey, I'm here once, so I have NO regrets.

I like it.

211 sports pre facelift had rocker switches either side of the wheel that allowed up and down shifts.

The newer ones just have paddles, RHS paddle does up, lhs paddle does down

ST, that's exactly what my car had, the shift buttons ( up down on each side ).

The paddles don't work anyway, confirmed that this morning...

I have kept the module that came with the refurbed wheel, so it may be simple as swap over & code in...

In all honesty, I've never ever used the buttons anyway ! :D

one less thing to go wrong & the car doesn't seem to throw up any error codes... I may plug her in over the weekend & see.

I like it too. I don't suppose they do one like that for a W210....?

yup !

search for carsdreams on the bay...

Piro Designs are also good, i'd probably say even better in terms of product turnaround pal.

If you are really serious, there are some lush versions coming out of the USofA which are just superb quality ! especially the carbon / leather ones... mega bucks though

So you keep your existing airbag assembly and that transfers to the new wheel?

Yes bud :D

I certainly wouldn't want someone elses / of unknown origin.

Legally speaking it's the sensible thing to do, as you keep your vehicles original airbag.

It does seem a bit daunting unplugging one, but it's very straightforward, as long as you respect that it's a safety device.

You've got a rare car, pre facelift 211 sport.

I like both, not sure how easy it is to code paddle shift but the wiring is there at least ;)

The chaps at COMAND online are into that sort of thing if you do decide you miss it. I would, wheel mounted gear overrides are the biz

The thing that puts me off is that I'll have an 11 year old airbag unit on a new steering wheel and it will look completely wrong!
