Hi,

My car runs fine for approx 5 mins after switching on then seems to go into a reduced power mode. I can correct this by switching engine off and then on again for another 5 mins or so.

Almost like an engine protect mode, instrument shows "no malfunction".

Engine runs powerful and really sweet for first 5 mins, no erratic idle at any time.

Anybody had this problem?, any ideas?

thanks
Tim

Hi Tim, this sounds like a MAF fault,,unplug it and try the car with it unplugged

fault codes

Hi,

Thanks Malcolm

I had egr vacuum pipes disconnected and plugged, have reconnected them thinking this was problem, unfortunately power not returned to normal

Just plugged in a scanner

got these fault codes and have cleared them now, comments please

4001 Component N15/3 control module is faulty

4600 The voltage supply of circuit 87 has undervoltage
4602 the voltage supply of the valves is faulty

I checked the battery terminal voltage and it is 12V only not 12.6 v so I think my battery is due for replacement and I think this has caused 4600 and 4602.

Do you think clearing the codes will resolve the issue?
Any ideas what 4001 really means, where is control module?

thanks
Tim

To be honest, when the engine isn't running, there's not much need for voltage.

When the engine is running, it should be between 13 and 14. I think 13.7 is optimum, or 14.7.

Not really like that,,when you turn on, with the key,an under voltage will record a starting blip as its known, and this is why if you start it again after a short drive the fault is gone.

Running voltages should never go above 14v and 13,8 is the normal, once you go over this it can get expensive on bulbs

update:

cleared codes and took for a run, sure enough after 5-10 mins engine power down as usual and this time no fault codes shown by scanner !!

how do MB technicans diagnose faults like this when scanner cant point to it?

replaced MAF a few weeks ago , not MAF.

O2 sensor fault should show up to scanner.yes?

I am told they only are enabledk when warm and after a few minutes running

Any thoughts

Tim
