Is the S320 Heater the worst ever or have I got a problem. I bought a 54 plate diesel last year and asked Mercedes to check the heater as it takes forever to warm up. They said it checks out ok. Most cars I have had are blowing warm within minutes and are hot after a few miles. This Merc even with a heater booster blows barely warm after about 10 minutes and today at minus 2 degrees outside never got the car comfortably warm. The temprature guage gets to just above 60 after about 10 mins in traffic or about 7 miles. Don't know if this is normal and this is the first diesel I have had. Could anyone who has a similar car comment.

Not an S class but a MB diesel (C270CDI).

My heater blows hot after about 5mins and the engine reaches 80degC after about 10min.

It may not be a problem with the heater more likely the engine thermostat

Hello and welcome to the forum.

This has been an ongoing subject during this cold spell.

It may be possible to fit a thermostat that opens later, I will check later.

Another way is to try and slide in some cardboard if possible to blank off the bottom half of the rad, I know that it sounds crude, but it works, the difficulty comes with getting it in

Many thanks for the comments. I think I will get it checked out again and have new thermostats fitted. Failing that Gloves and a Scarf.

My W210 had an auxiliary heater which meant it warmed up very fast. I expect that your similar S320 has something similar. So I expect you have a problem rather than it being a feature.

My E270 is blowing luke warm within a minute. The pre heater I assume - enough to start melting ice off the windscreen anyway, and is getting comfortable within 5 minutes. It sounds like your preheater isn't working to me.

The Ruskie site is down this morning, and that is easier than WIS for some info. Hope to post back with a few things

OK the aux heater is standard so should be OK

So is it working ???

I love the design of the VW thermostat, its electric and controlled by the engine ECU,,it knows when you are going downhill, and closes, when going uphill, it open just enough to keep the temperature at the optimum.
This must be far better with this active device, rather than what we have, and thats been unchanged for more than 50 years in principle

Can the heater be disabled through the cluster menu?

Perhaps check it's programmed to come on?

Had a look and could not find anything in the cluster menu. There is a switch next to the gear selector for the aux heater. I am assuming that when the red light on the switch is lit the heater is off?
