S350 electric seat problem

Hi
I have a 2003 S350 (W220 I think). Last week the easy entry seat function stopped working and at the same time the base unit has stopped moving back or forwards. The steering wheel part of the easy entry still works fine, as do all the other electric seat functions.

I have checked all the fuses and cannot find any problems there and have also checked that the easy entry is still set to steering column and seat which it is.

Is there anything else obvious it could be that anyone can think of before I take it to a garage?

Thanks

I've had a few W220's and had a similar problem on mine. It turned out to be a loose cable on the motor under the seat which had been knocked by my little lad shoving something under the seat from the back.

If the seat base does not move at all, I would be more inclined to think it was a power to the motor issue rather than a module or switch problem. If it has memory function, does the seat not move under any circumstances?

Hi Barry, and thank you for your reply.
I did have a quick look to see if there were any obvious loose cables but I will go and have a proper look again. I did kind of assume it couldn't be that as the easy entry (where the entire seat moves back to let you out and the whole thing moves forward when you get in) also stopped working at the same time. The whole seat moving forward/backward still works fine. It is the easy entry function that has stopped working, and the movement of the base only (making the base of the seat longer or shorter) that has stopped working.

There is no memory function on the door for the seats. We use the key memory function (the one you can set up via the steering wheel controls and the display just under/in the speedo)

Hope that clarifies it a bit. As you can probably tell, I'm no mechanic!

Hi

only advice I can offer is that a specialist looked at my seat and by moving it all the way forward and then all the way back it performed a kind if 'reset' and it has been fine since. I realise that yours has lost the forward movement but maybe there may be another way of resetting it (if that is the problem). I personally would try removing the fuse that services the elec seats for 5 mins. If it doesnt work then at least it hasnt cost you anything:) the other suggestion i had at the time i had problems was that a cable sometimes gets pulled out if the seat gets taken all the way back/forward etc, but I guess you have already looked under it.

You can have the seats normalized on STAR,, do bare in mind that if you keep the seat a fair way back this will not function for the easy entry
