2012 S350 Bluetec, had this annoying oil leak for a while now so took the covers off the underside today and it is dripping out of the 2 drain holes in the bell housing, now I know about the dreaded oil cooler seals failure but I thought that was sorted in 2010 with new design seals, has anyone seen a post 2010 car with the cooler leak?

my car is end of 2011 same engine as your and my seals was old style ( and it was wet there )
garage charge fortune is fairly easy job but time consuming

Had advisory last service that my 2012 OM642 oil cooler seals might be leaking, nothing showing on the drive yet and no movement on the dipstick so will hopefully know more at the next service.....

Not a good month John, while it was getting a new water pump at an indy I asked them to change the gearbox oil £550, then the rear level sensor fixed with a hose clip £450, they have told me that this is the best way to do the job as its not possible to use the correct clip due to access without removing the axle, and now the oil cooler is leaking, I'm trying to cut down on the spannering at my age but who can you trust?

Not a good month John, while it was getting a new water pump at an indy I asked them to change the gearbox oil £550 and when I was under the car the other day checking the oil leak and removing the covers it was obvious that the cover and gearbox pan had not been off for years, so what do you do, they are not going to admit it are they? then the rear level sensor fixed with a hose clip £450, they have told me that this is the best way to do the job as its not possible to use the correct clip due to access without removing the axle, and now the oil cooler is leaking, I'm trying to cut down on the spannering at my age but who can you trust?
Sorry , are you saying that changing the gearbox oil was £550 ??

if you will be sure is oil coolers seals and you are ok with your tools you can try do this yourself

labour cost is crazy for this jobs

oil cooler seals are £5 each (you need 2) i replace some other seals and air filters all parts cost me less than £100

is a lot of threads online how to do that but i was going with this guy

watch that first is older e class however engine is nearly the same

look at video first is not that hard as it looks

on different forums people complete this between a day and week so all depends of your skills

it takes me nearly 5 days but i was busy with other things so is really hard to say how many hours really it takes

But be sure is this leak coz can be turbo seal wich is much easier but in my case it was to much oil on ground compare to tiny leak at turbo
I try attach pics look at thickness of old and new seal

Can see why it would be an expensive fix as that would involve a few hours labour. Good on you for getting that done yourself Alex.

Sorry to hear you're having issues Steve, regarding the oil change if you can show it's not been done then I would ask them to show how they did it given everything looks like it's not been done.

Sorry I should't have mentioned the trans oil as it's only my opinion, have edited that out, thanks for advice on the oil cooler I will either do it myself when the weather gets warmer or replace the car it's done 200k

Takes 6-8 hours labour depending on how long it takes to remove everything, Turbo bolts are often seized (mine were).

The new seals DO NOT fix the problem, it will occur again but they are more robust than the original seals so SHOULD last longer.

My S350 2012 developed two oil leaks front and back . the seals were replaced but on testing the car cut out ( stopped ) at a certain temperature . Now it’s back firing / not running smoothly
Anyone have any idea why this should happen ?
