S420 1992 J central locking probs

Hi,

I have a really annoying problem .....the doors and boot will open when using the central locking either with the key or the key fob button and the alarm disarms, however the car will not lock (having to go round and push all the locks down and insert the key to lock the last door and boot).
In addition the reverse aids (chrome spikes located on rear of car) and the boot lid handle are not retracting either, I assumed it would be a vacuum pipe come loose or leaking, but I have searched to no avail. I have also checked all fuses too. i have even disconnected the battery for an hour or so, but no change. The total closure works when arming the alarm, but the locks still don't lock !!!

The closing aid, seat lumbar adjustments all work fine and the air pump located in the boot seems to be fine too.

any help would be really appreciated,

fed up and worried about big bill for a little job !!

2 pumps on your car, one for door closing, other for c/locking and heater valves / other vac systems.

Don't think it is a leak as it would not open, (single pipe for lock and unlock) having said that it could be possible, as it requires more effort to lock, check the pipes at the reverse indicators, and the fuel flap as they are easier to get at, dont worry if you find a pipe going nowhere around this area, this is a breather. Boot handle presenter is worked by the other door closing pump, so no need to check this.

Is the red lamp flashing when you try to lock? can you hear the pump running when locking?

e240 1998 central locking problem

i have a similar problem - however only the drivers door will lock with the remote. none will open. i tried disconnecting all pipes at pump and using a little compressor , this made all doors open - hoping this indicates there are no leaks. however, the pump does not even attempt to do anything to lock the doors (makes no noise) any help very much appreciated. also got a problem with courtesy light - i know it should take about 5mins to go off, but surely it should go off when u start the car!

will open but wont lock

have now fitted a new pump after i found the circuit board on the old one was knackered, the new pump has solved the heart of the problem and now the remote will open all doors but does not lock any - the pump does not even attempt it. any ideas?
