No but we didn't get in any UK cars whereas the 4 litre diesel is already available in the ML class. So it would be odd not to put it in the S class.

I picked up some literature on the pre facelift W211 in France awhile ago. The W211 was available in E400CDI guise at the time.

The figures in euros are;
0-100km/h - 6.9 sec
limited to 250 km/h
fuel economy urban/highway/combined 13.5/7.1/9.4 ltrs / 100 km

Comparing this to the W211 E320CDI (straight 6) of the same time
0-100km/h - 7.7 sec
top speed 240 km/h
fuel economy urban/highway/combined 9.9/5.9/7.3 ltrs / 100 km

The V8 is faster although not by much but the economy is nothing like as good as the in line 6, ~30mpg combined compared to ~38mpg combined.

I don't have figures for the 420cdi but as the new V6 E320CDI is limited to 155mph the only real difference will be the 0-60 time and the fuel economy.

If you are willing to pay the premium for the V8 you may well be better off with a petrol version, especially second hand.
