Hi, Good evening....

I am new to the forum, and indeed to Mercedes ownership. My father has had, and still runs a couple of E-classes including a 1998 E300TD with 270k miles (immaculate). I have just purchased, at 33 years old, my first Mercedes, a rather lovely 2003 S500 L, fully loaded in blue with the optional digital TV and wine fridge- excellent for a Saturday night out with the ladies...

However, the car has one fault, the lumbar support doesnt work for any of the seats. It did when I got the car, both the soft close doors and the trunk work perfectly, nothing else is wrong, just the lumbar support.

I have tried removing and replacing fuse 20- I think as all have gone at the same time it must be something electrical. Have looked on this forum and others and no ideas. Can anyone help??

You have a separate PSE pump in the boot side panel that operates the seats

I would check the fuse that feeds this pump, now in the event of a leak in a seat bladder the pump can turn itself off, in order to self protect itself and only STAR can turn it back on.

Ok- is this the 20AMP fuse under the rear passenger seat? I think it unusual that all lumbar fail at the same time and the soft close/boot/headrests etc still work- does the lumbar work off a different pump from these?

The soft close runs from the locking PSE pump thats under the rear seat. the lumber pump is on its own.

Lumbar Pump does not work

David Bownes, I have exactly the same problem, 2000 S430. Pump and soft close work fine. But the pump never activates for the seat lumbar support. I took the pump out and briefly tested what I could. Air hose is OK, only pump does not turn on. Let me know if you find a cure, I'll do the same. Contact pogmopoll@gmail.com to help. Dan
