The doors on my S600 have locked. Even with using the door key and the remote control the dors will not open. The door lock button rises, but the door still will not open. The dealer says he has never heard of this.

Has any one else expireienced this, or have any ideas?

It's a coupe. Both doors will not open. They are not frozen from the cold. It's been a week now that I have not been able to open them.

I tried going into the car thru the boot. The rear set has steel tubing holding it into place so access wasn't possible. The car is still locked.
Any ideas? :?:

Smash a window?

I think you're gonna have to do that, at least then you can get into the car and work on it.

I was hoping not to resort to that, but I may have to.

It would be worth finding out which window is cheapest, before you smash it. Also, just an idea, is the rear screen bonded (glued) in? It would be more cost-effective to cut it out (eg with a long, sharp knife), save the glass, and its a bigger hole to get into. Then, say £40-50 or so callout from Autoglass to re-glue the thing back in?

I hope, once you get in, the original problem is easy to fix, eg by starting the car the doors open, or by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

You could go to the local police station and ask them if they know of a good car thief. Its been done before. Do you belong to the AA etc?

RAC tried with no luck.
I'll try the back window idea and see if that will work.

Hi

this is a long shot...does the coupe have a sunroof ( asking as I'm not sure) if so there should be some kind or rewind mechanism probably in the boot that will allow you to close / open the roof in the event of motor failure...this may be worth a try, I' sure I read in my owners maual (s420 1992) that the re-wind is in the boot...i may be wrong.

Im guessing your manual will be safely locked up in the glove box, so i will have a look for you tonight and report back tomorrow !

best of luck.....by the way if I'm totally wrong don't laugh at my idea !

If it has a sun roof the motor is usually on the left as you look into the boot. behind where the hinges fit. May difer from model to model, but Mercedes dont change a lot.

Look for a RED plastic cap. Pull this off and also somehere around the should be a socket to firt what is under neath the red plastic cover., although the chances are that it gone, but you should find something to fit it.

I'm glad you brought this idea up 43662.. Well worth remembering.

thanks Dishmop

what you say seems VERY familiar whith what I read, the socket for the re-wind will no doubt be in the integrated tool kit in the boot floor / spare wheel cover,

It will probably be a good idea just to remove the carpet from that area to ease the opperation, this can be done by simply popping out the retaining clips from the sill under the rear window and around the lip of the boot catch too.

Another idea is to check the fuses in the boot for the 'total closure', closing aid system and security system. its all woth a try before desperate measures are engaged !!!

The only time I ever had a Merc with one of the winding sockets still on the car, I'm sure it was actually located on the roof motor somewhere, in a clip.

I checked the fuses and they are all good. I'll have to pull the liner out and look for the sunroof reel. I didn't see it when I peaked behind the panel.

I was able to access the car thru the sunroof!
The doors will not open still. I left the car running to see if the computer or low battery voltage had anything to do with it, but to no avail. I'll unhook the battery for awhile to reset the computer and try it.
Are there door acuators in the door that may be not working?

Hi ajadams,

Sadly I was unable to check last night, i will look tonight and post another reply for you !!

I'm guessing that the locking mechanism for the doors is runn on a vacuum pump of some kind, could a pipe have become disconnected ?

Should still be able to open the doors whether there is air or not.

The pump should be in the boot in the spare wheel well.

It sounds to me as if there is some kind of extra security locks fitted. Ask the last owner, or how about something stupid like doors wont open if the hand brake is not on, or its in gear, or , or????

Definitely worth a disconnect-reconnect on the battery.

The standard technique (once you're in) is to take the door panel off (should still come off even if the door is closed, but its a bitch to do!) and manually 'pull' the rod or otherwise mechanically open it.
