Safe Mode? 320cdi 2001

Hi,
Had a problem the other day started up drove up the road and realised that there was no power only a max 2k revs and that was it. Stopped turned engine off then back on again and it was fine and been fine ever since!
Any ideas?

MAS - seems to be the answer to everyones posts!
Ideally get a diagnostic done for the fault codes but assuming its not been replaced, it's a good bet.
