The disc must be clean, label uppermost, try a single CD and see if that works, failing that there is a service menu, dont think that that will help much.
the fuse could be removed to try a re set, and re inserted.

Try a CD lens cleaner, available from most audio shops. Usually fixes most Cd reading problems.

Yes copy it (for your own use of course as a backup  )It might be copyright protected, but I doubt it if its 2001 disc.
If cd drive can read the disc then the disc is ok. If it can read it, explore the cd and copy all the files to another disc.
It may be worth just making another copy anyway and trying that.
ps some makes of cd might not run on the satnav, good quality cd's should work

Teleatlas disks upto 2004 were easily copied by the unscrupulous. From 2005 onwards its far more difficult. I've yet to hear of anyone who has managed to copy a 2006 disk. the DVD's are different and sadly still very easily pirated.

Sounds to me like you have a dodgy laser in the unit. Does it play audio CD's?

Sat Nav disc reading problem.

Many thanks Alfie , for prompt reply. The unit will not play audio CD.The Nav disc is original MB in sleeve not pirated. Have had car over 2 years, system worked well and gradually has become intermittent. Now message permanenty on screen..I leave the Sat Nav disc permanently in slot is this correct or should I remove it after each journey etc? No details in manual.
As you say this could be laser problem. Can you recommend someone I can contact re this problem?
Thanks again for your help

I always leave the CD in the drive myself but if you dont have a Cd changer and want to listen to CD's, then you have to remove the disk!

Try www.rammobile.com I think they are based in Yorkshire and I know they have helped others in the past. This is assuming you've already tried a CD lens cleaner.
