Hi,

I am just in the process of buying my first Mercedes (S320 - im 28 and just found some grey hairs, time for the TT to go to buy a proper gentleman's car!!) and I hit a couple of snags buying from a private dealer.

1, The sat nav has decided to go all patriotic and is now operating in German, how do I change this back to English?

2, As its currently operating in German, when I pressed the TV button it said "kein tv" (i think!) does this mean i dont have the TV function? If I dont, can it be retro-fitted and does anyone know how much it would cost please?

Thanks in advance for any advice anybody can give on this.

P.S - Sorry, its a 2000 (W220 model?)

Hi,

Please bear with me, Im operating from memory:-

For 1, you need to load a navigation disc, press the SYS button and look for the option SPRÄCHE, then scroll down looking for English Imperial, then press the Right Hand Knob.

For 2, Keine TV means No TV. Yes it can be retrofitted, look at a company such as www.audicomp.net, they sell 2nd hand units. Read this website, http://www.mercupgrades.com/ the guy has made it his hobby on the subject, extremely helpful (and appreciated ... he helped me retrofit Command).

28 ... and grey hairs..... gulp! Grecian 2000?

Hi,

Thanks a million for the advice, I will try the sat nav thing on Sunday when I pick the new girl up!

On the tv tuner one, audiocomp want 800 euros which seems fairly reasonable (but thats plus fitting i guess - which mercedes would, i imagine, want me to remortgage my house for....) i think a grand on a 42" plasma tv may be money better spent!!

And I went for blonde highlights, and then cheesed my MD off when I told him about my new car this morning, as its better spec'd than his!!!!!!!!

I forgot about that, works out quite expensive for a toy with a very short shelf life! Actually, can you use the screen on it to play dvd's if you bought a seperate car dvd player and replaced the cd multi changer in the boot with it?

Just remember - the tv unit is analogue so will stop working shortly in the next few years.
90% of the home digi boxes are 12volt you could always put one under the dash and use the remote, if the commands have a spare input you could use that, outputs are all standard 1volt p-p. all for £30.

Get a multimedia adapter.....

this chappie sells a multimedia adapter which allows you to connect any RCA video source/audio to your COMMAND, such as digibox or playstation:

www.original-navi.de orlook at www.audiocomp.net as they do something similar. Cost is around €130.

Trouble is, youll have to get your hands dirty, plugging it into the back of the COMMAND

Big snag with digi TV is that you would have to do a complete new down load as you pass from town to town, as I do not think that the add stations menu would allow transponders other than those in the main stored memory.
