Hi, I have just joined as a member as I believe this is the best way to find what I'm looking for rather than trawling for answers on the web. I apologise if these questions have already been put on the forums but I searched first and couldn't find anything. I have bought a 2014 Mercedes B200 CDi 1800 which didn't come with any sat nav discs. I'm not sure if the car ever came with them as the previous owner didn't know either. I'm 4th owner. My wife noticed that the sat nav was quite out of date when we used it so just want to know the best way to do update it without having to spend £400 + at Mercedes dealer.

Thanks

Rich

Hi Rich, welcome to the forum, do you know what media system you have in the car. Mine is the non-COMAND version, Audio 20 unite.

2014 model may be the system that updates via a USB type map update and a passcode. Probably your best place to start is Comand Online LTD.

I just know that mine has not so popular Becker Map pilot with the unit plugged into the glove box, you have to take this out, plug into a laptop running the software and pay £90 a year for updated maps......no thanks.

Hi, sorry not sure what it is but I was given a book that came with the manual that gives information on COMMAND online. The picture on the front of the book is different to the one that's in the car. Its a stand alone screen operated by a dial. I can connect to the internet, sat nav, phone, plays video ( ? ) radio, sadly not DAB etc. I would have to wait for my wife to get home if I need to get the info off the screen to find out what it is.

Hi Rich, as already mentioned, the experts are Comand & they are forum sponsors. They're based in Lightwater, Surrey and are very well informed.

Have your VIN to hand when you contact them, they can look up the build sheet for your car and thus give you proper advice knowing exactly what you have! Thye know more about MB ICE than MB themselves!

Its about £100 a year to update the MB sat nav. I don't think it as very good system. Its slow to update any change in route, or change in traffic delays, & no speed camera warning.
If my wife is with me we used her TomTom Live, otherwise I use Waze on my iPhone.

I'm thinking on the same lines as you. Its a shame seeing as the car came with sat nav but too expensive to maintain / update.

Agreed. If you haven't tried Waze give it a go, its free apart from the data it uses which is not much.
I have used it a lot over the last 3 months to visit my wife in hospital in Birmingham. It never got me stuck in heavy traffic, always finds another route.
