I went to the midlands meet today and as I had to take the wife to her dads first,I thought I would follow the inbuilt sat nav, I started from Carterton in Oxfordshire and it took me out onto the A40 to Oxford then A34+ M40 to Banbury then A361 to Badby,55 miles 1 hour 30 mins on way back I decided to go via Banbury, chipping norton,Buford to Carterton all A361 44 miles and 10 mins less.
But I can’t find any setting to see what criteria my ntg 4 uses, anyone know how to find it ?

menus well hidden, get the manual out

first question, how long was return journey?

basically all navs have the option to select from 1) time 2) distance 3) a combination of both that's easiest to drive

check if you have traffic re route enabled, should let you know and on screen show that's what its up to (but its very subtle)
can also be from starting point maybe that route made more sense
other thing ALWAYS have latest mapping as you may know a route that your old mapping doesn't know is viable (in fact, even the very best up to date in car systems, may not use routes that nutters on back roads doing 110mph down some single lane farm track have taught google is quicker)
