The Sat Nav (COMAND) system on a merc is purely for navigation aid - ie you want to work out how to get from A to B. The tracking device system is installed by an authorised body and can be installed at one of several points throughout the car. The tracking device is activated when the car is moved illegally by emitting a signal that can be picked up by local police - there are systems that will use satellite (GPS) to locate the location of the car too. My Mercedes dealership installed a "Tracker" tracking device system on my car, the prices are at www.tracker.co.uk but you will have to pay extra for installation, as well as a subscription... Tracker do 3 levels of cover I have the Monitor version (which is demoed on their web site too). There are also a number of other systems on the market, but for me this one seemed to do what I wanted for my CLK 320 and Merc dealers seem to know how to install this one. Direct Line, who I chose as an insurer required a tracking device too.

Not being an authority on the subject, I hope this helps :)

All the best

Dave
