Scratch Repair in Scotland

Anyone have any recommendations or experience on having a scratch repaired in Scotland (East Central Belt/Edinburgh)?

My car was keyed a weekend or so back, I've already tried the MB dealership and Chipsaway but none of them seem that keen to get business.

I don't expect a total re-spray is required and I'm hoping to pay cash (hopefully not a lot) rather than insurance claim. I do know of a few body shops but I'd like to find out others opinions before I take it somewhere.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello there, the fading in of scratch repair work involves the use of a very high powered thiners to melt the surface to enable one to blend, it is not a good way in the long term. Under very cold conditions it can come off very easily and it can craze, So the only real way if you are keeping the is to do the whole panel. If you offer cash to these guys it works wonders and you can avoid something beginning with V.

How it matches in is hard to say without seeing the damage, its all to do with angles and curves.

Paint matches these days are very good.

Cheapest but best is suitable, the car is leased so as long as it is glood for the term I have the car and also is passable when it is finally inspected on return then I'd rather be as little out of pocket as possible.

I tried t-cut and managed to get the colour better but it does need some professional attention.

Well in that case I would ask for a fade in, if they will do it.

I seen a product in the Sunday papers that will take scratches away. It is only £14.99 and the before and after does look OK, I'm never a sucker for these small ads in the press but I wondered if anyway has genuinely tried this product?

I've got a small scratch in my bonnet, which won't tcut out. I'd be interested to know about this stuff. What paper did you see it in? I'll need to go and retrieve the Sunday papers from the recycle bin!

I seen it in a copy of the News of The World that blew into my garden ;)

Phoned twice and spoke to the guy but he's still never turned up, I've started seeing this a lot from the East coast franchise of Chipsaway. Maybe the odd personal customer is not enough profit for them and prefer to get the big accounts via the dealerships.

I doubt very much that dealerships use chipsaway its so simple to do what they do themselves, most of them have their own body shop who can do a better job.

The local MB dealership does use them for the odd job here. I think the sales dept more than the servicing centre but I asked them to look and the dealership bounced me to Chipsaway. I've seen the chipsaway van often in official dealership garages so they must get some business from the franchises.

I've seen paint fixers and dent fixers at various dealerships. Some sorting out brand new cars fresh off the transporter.
Bodyshops are the last resort.

Had the same issue with chipsaway myself. Ended up going to a local bodyshop in Kirkcaldy who were more than happy to do it for cash. If Kirkcaldy is any good for you, let me know and I'll send you his details.

I've had loads of folk recommending good places in Edinburgh and local area, I'm off on holiday soon and will probably leave it until I come back.

I'm quite disappointed with Chipsaway, they looked at my wifes car a few years back and were very good. Obviously the local franchise has either got busy or lazy.
