I have a ripped drivers seat on my 230TE, and I'm after info on what repairs are possible.  Its ripped on the righthand side where you rub against it getting in and out.  Is it possible to get hold of the seat cloth, and did MB change it often.  The car's 1990, with black trim (with a slight orange/brown line in it).

Thanks

This is a task for an Auto repeat Auto Upholsterer or car trimmer. They can be found by looking in Yellow Pages  etc.for your area or failing that in old copies of Classic Car magazines. Be careful in your choice.
I very much doubt that MB will supply the basic material.
The upholsterer will have access to the material, through trade sources & will advise you accordingly.

I had exactly the same damage to my drivers seat of my 1990 190E. I didn't know if repairs were possible/economically viable or to what standard they could be done...

In the end, I went to a specialist auto upholstery company and they were able to get exactly the same fabric and did an amazing repair. The older fabric is slightly faded if you look carefully but apart from that the joins to the new panels are invisible.

So it is possible, and worthwhile if you go to the right place. It cost me about IEP100 which included repairs to the backrest and seat cushion of the dirvers seat. (The company I used was Nolan Autocare in Dublin, although I guess that's not much use to you!)

Mark,

I've called a few auto upholsterers in my area (Norfolk/Suffolk) and hand a few quotes - all approx £60-80.  One suggested that I sacrifice the material in the armrest or central rear headrest, as it may be difficult to source new material.

Good to that quality repairs are possible though.

Cheers

Haig

... or you could give Derek Nolan a call on +353 1 456 9464. He was able to get the exact fabric for my (1990) car, maybe he would be able to match yours and supply by mail order (just a thought) if you were able to remove a strip of the original from the ripped panel.
