I have recently aquired a 1979 230 c coupe (123) and it appears to have a  vacuum operated seat locking system similar to that of the central locking.  Only it doesn't work!  Anyone have any ideas as to common problems with this system i.e on the doors, it's usually a vacuum unit seal that's perished.
Any other little quirks about these cars may be handy to know about too.
It has a 115 engine,  an auto box, 95,000 miles and tons of history.

Seat locking mechanism?

Hi Kenny,

You have a real early car. The engines although by no means quick. But very reliable. A bit like the early diesels 615-617 engines. Not quick but reliable and this is where MB built its reputation on reliability. Make sure you carry out oil changes regulary and these cars are serviced every 5k. When changing the points make sure you use the little satchet of grease which comes in the points packet (if there isn't any get some) a put it on the points heel contact where it contacts the distributor spindle. Thats  as much as comes to mind besides the normal service stuff.

As for the seats, the seat locking is worked by vacuum. I have explained in earlier pages of this forum how to test c\locking on these cars.
Have a look.
