My 560SEC seatbelt presenter(correct name escapes me) seems to be doing the opposite of what it is designed for. If the car is running, as soon as you open the door it presents the belt, very difficult to get around to sit in. Once seat belt is latched it goes back which is correct, but when you unlatch the belt and open the door out the arm comes out again, very difficult to get around. Did work correctly until today.Bit of a pain, any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
I think it has the same 'belt hand-over arm' as the 300ce.
If there are two buttons on the hindge part of the door frame (one for the interior light, the other for the belts), it is the same system. This is the first thing I would look into; that button/switch. They can get a bit grimey with the greece from the hindges. The switch could be knackered altogether.

You could start by finding out which one is for the belts by pressing with each your finger. The one that does not turn off the interior light is the one.
See that it is running free first.
Remove and clean.
Swap connections from one switch to the other.

If that does not cure it, post back.
I have some other experences of this system

If it does, post anyway. Did you see the pictures of my car

Cheers Pascal will have a go over the weekend, it does have two door switches. Bit strange that it does the opposite of what its supposed to rather than not working at all.
Sorry to see that Pascal, was a nice clean coupe judging by the back end. Well theres always a bright side (99 320sl)
Regards
Mike

Sounds to me like the switches are ok - still worth a look though, try pulling the fuse for a while, the 2 control units at the back of the arms can sometimes get a bit confused. Also check the fuses, sounds daft I know but strange things can be caused by a blown fuse when components try to gain a supply via some other consumer which was on the same fuse and is also supplied from another source. (big pipe, small pipe, water will not run through the small pipe noticeably unless the big pipe is closed off, it finds the easyiest path).
Is everything else connected to the switches working? i.e. windows working with ign. off / door open, int lamp, seat locks when door closed / engine running, factory alarm (if fitted..red dot on key), lamp on buzzer ???
