Second hand A140 issues

Just bought a second hand A140 53 plate as a stop gap til I find a newer car and few issues which I would like to get sorted if not too expensive.​

The Mercedes Instrument Cluster LCD is not working properly. I cannot read the distance mileage or the gear position or temperature etc. What is the cost to get this repaired while you wait? I live in NW London.

Also next to the auto gear box it shows S and C mode. I guess S is sports mode which keeps the engines revs higher but what does C stand for? The car seems to make a lot of loud engine revving or change gears at a higher rev than I like, the manual says that the car learns your driving style or something. Wondering if that's rubbish as I'd like to reset it from the previous owner if true.

Finally, how much can I expect to pay for replacement front disc and pads and also a Offside Front Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i)) from its Oct 2020 MOT advisory. What can I expect to pay for that to be repaired too?

I would trade it in for the newer car soon rather than get it repaired.

These are consumabale parts, pads disks and BJ (ball joint) can be done I say for around 200, depends mostly on cost of parts, Id say labout would be 1.5 hours.

Have you checked fuse for cluster

C is comfort. when was the gbox last serviced.

Just had new discs and pads on my A 160, handbrake serviced and fuel tank rust cleaned and painted £ 200.

Though I suspect that in London prices are less sensible than in Yorkshire.

This company rebuilds all sorts of electronic modules including instrument clusters.

I was thinking of repairs to the gearbox costing well over £800.

talk to Des at Forrera - Trussley Rd, Hammersmith. He is an A Class specialist. (He rebuilt the auto box on the one I had and did servicing)

he is an independent in a small workshop, but really knows the A class.

he carries s/h spares, so may have a spare dash for a cheap fix - and code it to your ECU, failing that contact cartronix in Surrey, they do dash repairs, and guarantee it.

The lcd display may be just a case of checking the electrical connector at the back of the dash.
For MOT purposes the garage can just shine a torch on it to record the mileage,
