second hand starter motor £15 is this cheep?

hi please could you tell if £15 is cheep for a second hand starter motor and how much a new one is ?? just thought id say thanks to everyone for the help on my idle problem my car is a 190e so it is injection although it looks like a carb i got a idle control valve fitted it and its fine now thanks smity

£15 is about right, for secondhand. Of course, unless it came from a reputable car dismantler who checks components thoroughly before stripping the car, and has verified its working okay, there's no guarantee its any better than your existing one. They tend to work on the basis that if it doesn't work, they'll swap it for another, which could be in a similar condition! So, buyer beware. but I think you'll be okay!

Also be worthwhile before fitting, if it is straight off a wreck, to dismantle, clean up the commutator with emerycloth (but don't undercut the segments), lube the end bearings and even fit new brushes, as a matter of course. This is as much as would be done by many so-called 'reconditioners'.
