I have a 2009 350SL petrol automatic.
Trying to check the oil.
Is there a secret Menu that can check engine oil level.
or..
Am I missing a dip stick? if so where is it located. I see a tube on the left hand rear of the engine. But looks more like an automatic gear box filler. (Not Plugged just bare tube).
If I am missing an engine dip stick anyone have advice about types sold on eBay or existing dipstick details so I can possibly adapt one to match.

Thanks all

Any clues in the car manual ?
The empty uncapped tube is worrying!

Similar to this , pressing the trip reset button .
It seems that the 2009 SL 350 petrol does not have this feature.
Can any 350 owners confirm dip stick or .menu
Thanks

My 2009 SL 350 has a dip stick. Left hand side at the back of the engine.

These cars can use oil, according to the manual, so you do need to keep an eye on it. On mine, there is a warning message in the instrument cluster if the level gets low.

Thanks for the reply, I have the same warning on the cluster , I am still gathering info on the secret Menu, that seems to exist, will post what I find. With regards to the dip stick it seems mine is missing. Does yours reside in a guide tube? Any chance of taking the measurements or a photo
Where are you located
Thanks again

Morning Stan, I am in NW Leicestershire (purgatory).
Yes it does reside in a guide tube.
I will get some measurements and photos for you.

You could try something like this: https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/spare-parts/mercedes-benz/oil-dipstick/sl-r230.html
Which I found after a few seconds with Google.

Would I drive a car without a dipstick. No. Would I drive a car without enough oil, no. My first car (Lancia) I over filled the oil. Too much oil pressure, dipstick unseated itself. Engine oil all over the engine bay and the M6, and I put one con rod through both sides of the block.

Just realised you share the M272 engine that I have - Dipstick location is exactly as your pictures
I like it. My first petrol V configuration. I've had straight sixes, diesel v8 and flat sixes. Something about a petrol V puts a smile on my face. Probably something to do with growing up in the 70s/80s and hearing about legendary V6s during those times.

Not sure on your exhaust, but mine makes a beautiful growl going up the box at full chat :D

Have you a standard exhaust?
Mine is standard and I love the sound as the revs increase. Once up towards and over 4000 RPM it reminds me of an F1 car. However, I have not watched F1 (since Senna) so this belief could be a ridiculous delusion, but one I am happy to have.

Standard as far as I'm aware - twin oval tailpipes (real ones...) ;)

Sorry took a while to get back to you, Thanks for the photos, My replacement Engine??? dip stick just arrived via eBay, only problem its 47 and a quarter inches long!! so I will go back to the supplier, because it looks like they supplied the auto transmission dip stick by mistake. although its now got me wondering if I have or should have an auto transmission dip stick, will keep you posted
