Hi All

We have a V plate A190 Elegence automatic with a gearbox which is on the way out. (independant Garage and mercedes specialist). They've quoted us £1200 to fix the car. I've listed the symptoms of the car in a thread on here and I've had confirmation that it's probably exactly what the independant garage and specialist think it is.

As it's a second car and we are fortunate enough to have a newer 03 a class as well we were wondering how best to dispose of the car. It seems a waste to me to simply scrap it and I know we'll be offered a pittance considering what it's worth partwise.

Are there specialist mercedes breakers who might want the car and pay us a decent price for it? (I'm not expecting megabucks here).

Any and all advice would be appreciated

Regards

M

I had one of them once! (I wouldn't feel guilty about scrapping an A-class.... )

Isn't a V reg a 1999 year - just wondered if you can take advantage of the government 10 year old scrappage scheme and get £2k for it towards a new car. Assuming you want to buy a new car that is.

If it was me I'd stick it on ebay for auction, tell potential purchasers about the gearbox being on it's way out and let people bid for it. You may be surprised what you get for it - there are people out there who might be in a position to replace the gearbox very cheaply / easily and be interested in snapping it up if the rest of the car is sound.
