unbelievable prices

my mate just picked up a 2000 clk 4.3 v8 cabriolet with 90,000 (ish) for £8,000

i know id pay £15k for a 1997 w124 e36 amg cabriolet (wouldn't we all) but for these 2 cars not a chance

Hell of a difference in mileage though , and IMO the green cabrio being pre facelift will still be cruising around in 30 years time, albeit with a new loom and head gasket!

Do you know i truly believe the 124 convertible is one of the most handsome open top vehicles built since the 70's

I couldn't bring meself to pay that sort of money, but i would say that particular car could well be museum material.

my mate like i said has just bought a 2000 clk 4.3 v8 and all my mates but 1 wets their pants at it and i too love it but would not own it as if im going to have a convertible it would be 1 of 2 cars, a w124 or a aston martin and thats about it

funny you say wiring loom & head gasket thats 2 thing i had go on my GFP 2 last year and had the loom changed on my GFP3 last spetember (front part of loom)

i once saw the AMG e36 convertible in RHD on autotrader 2 years ago in blue & cream and 89,000 miles for about £12,000 with low milage

i did not get the cash in time

infact ive still got the advert saved ill go upload it ...

milage has made me think twice now as why would the clock be changed except for an engine change

might be dodgy thinking about it now

that is my dream car (other than the vanquish)

Blimey if i'd seen that i'd probably have it on the drive now. A truly lovely and unique motor.

As you say strange about the odo differences but i daresay there would be correct paperwork to explain.

Talking of looms, yes had mine done last year (96 coupe at 68k at the time), took the ecu with it but luckily the chap i use for that is good, and repaired fine. The coils stared to go this year so they,ve been changed, just waiting for the head gasket to start leaking as we approach 100K, if i still have it and have'nt gone over to legacy. (sorry for the L word).

Hi,
The blue one no way (non amg) - but the green one!!

Providing it has all the history to back it up and it looks as good in the flesh that's a total time-warp in every sense of the word - good 86/89 SL's are fetching this sort of money.

I'm sure there will be a little leverage in that price as most bigger engined cars seem to be taking quite a hit lately - however if they hold out I'm sure there will be a buyer out there who wants an "as new" one of these and is quite happy to pay for it.

Let's face it buying 2nd hand is a mine-field and its not very often that cars of this vintage come up in this sort of condition..

Dont kick yourself too hard, I went to see that cash with pound notes, ready to take it away. The clocks on these are were known to fail, as long are the change is documented theres no real issue there.
The main problem with the car was the genral condition, its by far the worst w124 interior Ive ever seen. I did suspect the mileage too, so did a hpi check, it turns out in 2001 the car was on 122,000 miles. So it had a huge amount of mileage taken off.

In addition to that the engine had a noisy top end, which on a AMG means big money.

Ive since bought 2 w124 E36's, the difference in power is definatly noticable!

Except the Vanquish never was and never has been made in cabrio form. We did build one of the very last one's with a glass roof, I have pics somewhere if anybody is interested
(the owners of the last 50 'specials' all started to specify different things to make theirs the 'most ultimate' one but the glass roof one beat the lot......

you been hiding?

were the people selling the amg dodgy?

it all seemed too good and that usually means 1 thing

how bad was the car

The guy selling it was genuine enough, he paid over £20k for it, so clearly got ripped off. The car was the worst example of a w124 cabriolet Id seen.

And by the way, im going to be selling my E36 coupe if your interested.
