Last year I paid £180 for an MB A service. My A Class 170 is now two years old. I have been quoted £480 for B service BUT there may be (many) additional chargeable items. So the cost of B service is likely to be much higher for one year alone! Karamba!

Why does MB servicing cost so much for a small engined car? Other manufacturers charge much less and even offer longer warranties.

I have read glowing reports here about how MB servicing and how MB helps with small scratches and similar, under warranty. My experience has been that MB garages charge EXTRA whereas here it is implied they do not.

Has any one got experience with alternative servicing at cheaper realistic pricing? that is not inflated by more than 100% by MB with fear of losing waranty?

£480 is not right for the B service alone. Go back and check, it could well include the known time and mileage components of the servicing regime.

Aah the frills of MB's menu servicing I could analogise it as follows ;

Would Sir like the set meal "yes please"
Oh its extra for the plate, and the knives and forks sir, didn't you ask before you sat down.
"Sorry I just presumed"
You can't presume anything sir the menu price is just a starting point.
"Well why don't you put the price for the so called extra's on the menu or a leaflet or something?
But then you wouldn't sit down would you Sir ?

As above - that price is just wrong, or someone is trying it on.

OP - see if your local dealer has fixed price servicing on their website. Inchcape owned dealers list a B service on a 0-3yr old A Class for £289. The car will also need brake fluid changing and that should be maybe £60.

Call your dealer and ask them to explain the work involved.

(By the way, I've never heard of dealers repairing scratches etc under warranty).

It does sound a bit steep. I'd expect that price for mine but not an A170.
I'd ring them back and check - sounds like someone has made a mistake to me.
If you post where you are, someone should be able to point you towards a good independant specialist too. There is no reason, aside from maintaining the Mobilo breakdown cover, to use a dealer if you don't want to.

Rory - £60 for a brake fluid change at MB?

I got quoted £225 for an E class recently, when I queried it they dropped it to £175.

Got it done at an indy for £35

Isn't that the price for an SBC equipped car? There was a discussion about it recently and it's a more involved job than normal.

Mind you, the dealer standard price for changing an air filter is £70 and it takes about 15 seconds.
