Hi,

I own a C220 diesel (96k) 64 plate and its due for its 'A' service. Called up the local mercedes dealership and I have been quoted £643 LOL.

My car has always been serviced by them and last year service B cost me approx. £380.

Crazy how expensive this service is, been told I need to replace the air, fuel filters etc.

Do you think it would be better for me to go to a local mercedes specialist or stick to the dealers as its always been serviced by them?

Worried it might be difficult to sell in the future if I have different services.

What are the pros and cons of both?

Thanks

The only difference I believe would be there would be no mobilo cover by the MB Indy, electronic service record would be updated providing you choose a genuine MB Independent with star and access to the MB Service database, he would also be able to confirm any additional work required where it sounds as though there is? You should post your location so members can advise on an appropriate Indy?

Thank you for the response. I have the AA parts and labour cover so the mobilo cover doesn't matter for me.

My location is bradford.

You need a full breakdown of whats due.
Coolant is every 15 years (so thats you)
Brake fluid every 2.
Air filter every 2 or 4.
Fuel filter every 4.

Your call OP, find a proper merc indy who knows whats due when. you would shave about 1/3 of the MB price assuming they use genuine MB parts.

Have to say it wouldn't even cross my mind to use a main dealer for routine servicing on a 6 year or older car...I would be using a trusted independent specialist.
As long as the first 3 from new have been main dealer it will make absolutely no difference having a combination of main dealer and independant servicing when it comes time to sell.

Local Service !

I remember one or two discussions about sevicing, service contracts and rates on here and it's alwaus been of interest to me. When a member was decryi care ngpoor service at high prices recently I commented yjat sadly, most stealerships don't care whether you use the or not and whether you're satisfied if you do... whereas most independents (and I include the local garage with the real specialist indy in this comment) are very pleased to have your custom and actually care that you'll return for anyother requirements.

Here's my latest experience:

I use a local "all makes" garage for general servicing. The manager and most of his engineers are quite knowedgeable and they serivice my car according to A and B schedule at very reasonable prices. I went through a decision process when I'd had the car for a year and my experience with the service contract quotation from MB left me feeling glad to have escaped... So after discounting the value of Mobilo (I have full continental breakdown service via my bank) I went with my local well-known garage. As most customers will find, de

Don't know anything about them but I've seen Prestige in Bradford mentioned by others in glowing terms.

If you want to stick with an official dealer it's worth finding out exactly what they're quoting for and seeing if they'll negotiate. The dealer I used to use was good for that - but then they referred everything to their call centre and it became hopeless.

So, a breakdown of service A from Mercedes:

Oil Filter and Oil Change
Brake Fluid Change
Air and Fuel Filter.

£641

Madness. I will look at the Indy option.

I don't know Prestige Bradford, I am aware of Prestige In Ossett
I've not used them, although I have been to see them and had a chat with the owner - they have good reviews here and online

It was described as being in Canal Road so I believe it's this place: https://www.prestige-car-care.co.uk/ Like I say, I've simply seen them mentioned a few times so it's a suggestion rather than a recommendation!

If thats all it is then it represents extremely poor value for money...but we all knew that anyway. :p
I have just had my very first service carried out by supplying dealer which is basically just an oil and filter change together with a few checks and topping up screen wash. Working time on my car was no more than 70 minutes at a total cost of £283.

I checked my local dealer on MyService - it's Inchcape owned Cheshire Oaks - as they usually come out a bit cheaper. I used a random C220CDi reg number.

Recommended: Service A £262.54
Brake system: Replace brake fluid £92.51
Replace air filter element £91.62
Replace fuel filter £129.00
£569.66

I mean, the service has always been that sort of price - my first ever would have been £250 but I supplied my own oil and they did it for £150 - but the other items just seem bonkers.

Perhaps there's a reason - would this be a fuel filter with a water sensor? I have it in my head that the car needs to be told on Star that the air filter has been changed??

I got similar prices with an online quote too. Mad
