I own C200 Benz. Why does it count down service due days even when it is not in use

As above. For example brake fluid needs replacing every two years.

The bottom line is every x miles or y years or whichever (x,y) comes first.

Of course if in 2 years you drive 300 miles you would waste money on an oil change, but brake fluid would need doing.

Engine oil oxidises when exposed to air, and in the 300 mile example above, it will likely be full of oil/petrol/water further pushing oxidation, if it had not been on a 300 mile single journey
