I have a 2002 C class which has just had the B service @ 40k miles - by a Bosch garage. The display shows next service @ 10k BUT a B service again. The garage tried to reset it to A, which should be the next service but does not work. What is the way around please except maybe going to a Mercedes garage?

Hi Devdeep

Dealerships are not the only garages with sophicated diagnostic equipment. Indies are often well equipped and can do whatever the dealers can do.

I understand that early Mercedes ASSYSTs programme the services by alternating them e.g. 'A', 'B', 'A', 'B' ... . However, later ASSYSTs programme the type of service according to how the car is driven and repeating a particular service, e.g. 'B' followed by another 'B', is not unusual.

I cannot comment on the ASSYST in your particlar car but my 2000 model alternates services and calculates the mileages in between. Hopefully another member with your year model Merc' will be able to assist you further.

Once you're out of the MB network it really doesn't matter - in fact even within the MB network my cars first service was an A, until just before I took it in, when it flipped to a B. The MB dealer still happily did an A - he said ASSYST is just a guide. It came out firmly on a B though!

Hi Rory

An obliging MB dealer!!! I had a conversation with my dealer shortly after acquiring my car and he was adamant that servicing had to follow a particular schedule. However, my ASSYST follows a predictable sequence and, as you say, it's only a guide.

I agree that once outside of the dealer network things are different.
