My C class 270CDI has been politely letting me know that I'm due an A service and counting down to about 1200miles. Then all of a sudden I start the car last night and it now tells me that it wants a B service.

The previous service was a B, and its been around 11 months since that one.
Does the car really need another full service ?

You may find the sticky on servicing useful.

Don't worry. The diagnostic equipment tells them what work needs doing to your car regardless of the letter A or B.

In general, the further you go between services on cars with variable intervals on ASSYST, the more likely it is to flick over to a B service.

Thanks Hawk,

Will make sure the garage understand what is needed, when I take it in.

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
My C270CDi did this just before its first service, when it had done about 18K miles. At the time I was doing a lot of miles and I'd already booked the car in for an A sevice as I felt the mileage without being serviced was becoming ridiculous.

When I took it in I asked them to still only do an A service and they were fine - they said that ASSYST is only a guide anyway.

The services should alternate A & B but if you do very low or, for some reason, very high, mileage then ASSYST seems to ask for a B every time. Has you car done a lot of miles since last service?
