I configured my ideal Mercedes C320CDi on their web site and sent it to two dealerships, enquiring about delivery dates for my chosen car. On the 17th and 20th July I received an automated reply, no personal contact from either dealership.

Yesterday I rang one of the dealers and asked to speak to a sales person. Was told they were all busy, but one would call me back. This morning one did call me while I was out, so when I called him back an hour later he was not available, but he would be asked to contact me as soon as possible.

Well I have waited in all day for his return call, and am still waiting at 5.45pm.

If this is the treatment I can expect from Mercedes dealerships when I intended to spend £38,00 on a new car, I fear for the treatment I would receive had I bought one and needed assistance or a service.

The first dealership I sent my enquiry to have not bothered to respond at all. Maybe buying a new Mercedes is not such a good idea, unless someone can convince me otherwise.:-x

All dealers are not as bad as those two. It's a shame that you're not in Norwich as the dealer here is superb for service, at least I think so. :-D

Interesting post this. It reflects my neighbours experience of two weeks ago whilst visiting one of two local MD dealers with the intention of purchasing a new C Class, but of course wanted to look, feel and touch as well as have an intelligent conversation with a knowledgeable sales person.

He was treated as if he was something the dog had dragged in, of course the problem was he was not in his best whistle! Not to be deterred he continued to press the cause, the 'sales person' saw an existing customer arrive and promptly excused themselves to 'attend' to this other persons needs.

So after an hour or so and with nothing to show for his time he quietly left the premises. Not sure what he will be doing now but for sure he will not be placing an order with that MB dealer.

We have a couple of dealers like that in in our area. Fortunately we also have a family owned Main Dealer not under the MB supercilliorship, who are the nicest and most friendly and efficient company to deal with. Who have I bought my cars from ?

Daimler-Benz (yes it was that long ago) issued a directive to all their dealers to the effect that , these days many customers prefer to 'dress down' and a prospective customer should not be discriminated against because of their apppearance .

Sound advice - ignore it at your peril , Mr. Dealer .

This is exactly why I moved dealers.Having experience of 2 MB dealers like this; about a year ago I responded to an advert for MB of Hull which promised outstanding service. So it was easy to walk in with the advert and say "I want this". Well I got it in shedloads. They've been superb and never again have I felt like Dosco's neighbours dog draggings. Highly Recommended.
PS Oldcro: there is an airport at Hull

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
I can't say I really had any problem in either of the 2 MB dealers I wandered into when looking for the car I have now.
However I've been into, and wandered around, my local BMW dealer several times and never yet been spoken to by anybody, never mind a salesperson. Most people in my job and at my level drive 5 Series BMW's, yet BMW don't even know I exist.

T212 facelift, 2013. A few toys including pan roof, 19" rims, Harmon Kardon, nappa, privacy glass.
Whenever I go to MB in Dartford, the service and attention is always a1, regardless whether I am in my biz suit or my lawn mowing civvies. Without exception the receptionist gets up to greet asks what you are after and takes you to the right person. Can't fault it.

As with all these things, it's down to the human element factor. What I would say is that this dealership is always busy with people and (assuming it's not all people coming back for warranty work - LOL - they must be doing something right.

A second vote for MB Dartford, I bought my first (second hand) Merc there and had great service from the minute I phoned to enquire.
