I wonder if you could help me out DB I bought a 2013 SL350 a few months ago with 32k on the clock, and I have been trying to find it's service history. It's had three owners one of which had a private plate. I have managed to get some info before and after the private plate was fitted but nothing in between. Being a mechanic myself (now retired) I have serviced and gone through the car and it looks like it's been looked after before a bought it e.g MB pads/MAN filters etc.
The VIN No is WDD2314572F008137 Any help on this would be very much appreciated .

I will also second Mercserve for a reputable independent specialist.

I’m in Notts now. and when a Volvo Indy was next to them, I watched the cars they worked on and being in the trade, they looked ethical and respectful to owners cars. Since owning mine, I have used them, met them and would recommend.

Hi just checked there is only 2 records on Mercedes dsb if you pm me I’ll let you no what there is it’s 1st service and one in nov 2019
Thanks for that DB. I managed to get that far myself using a link on here some time ago. The car was owed by the wife of a garage owner /MOT/servicing/car sales etc and I think it's been serviced by them regularly so that is where the gap is. But thank you very much indeed for trying for me I appreciate it.

Me, I would change all the oils and filters, check brakes, pads. That's as involved as I would get till spring. Then I would get it up in the air check everything. Replace as required.
If not prepared to do yrself find ur local recommended indy. Get him to do anything required.

I did all that the first week I got the car. That's how I know it;s been well looked after.

Hi, I own a 2011 ML 350 and want to see all service records if any? I emailed MB with all info (still waiting) but wanted to know if any other way to find out faster other than paying $50.00 online?

So due to the Pandemic I didn't get any work done to the car since I purchased it in October as the car wasn't being used and is 4th car in the house and I have only done about 100 miles in it in the last 6 months - but took it to a good indy today to get it ready for use and fully serviced and checked and whilst there I mentioned the things that members here and in particular Whitey recommended - and the indy who specialises in MB and rebuilds turbos in-house actually commented that it was good advice and that your friend (Whitey) certainly knows what he is talking about.

My thanks to Whitey and all those who offered advice on this thread.

HI Hotspur,

I note you saying "I have only done about 100 miles in it in the last 6 months". And just wondering, was you given any advice from garage with any concerns as to the lack of usage, as i have read, mercs dont like short journeys or not being used much in general. Taking delivery of an old clk 220 high miler tomorrow, and still worried about be not doing too many miles?

not really Mercfan99 - they did say 6 months wasnt too long and not uncommon for many cars during the Pandemic - the only thing they noticed under the initial inspection was that the brake linings were starting to corrode but thats not directly related to the last 6 months but a longer term thing - I wouldnt worry about it as I know many people with older mercs that pot around town and only occaisionally and they seem fine - others may be better positioned to advise here, but mine seems to not have been adversely affected by non-use in the last 6 months and I dont know how long it had been stood at the dealer before I bought it.

Many thanks Hotspur.

I am getting the feeling that, Mercedes are trying to worry the hell out of individuals driving much older Mercs. People like me, becoming paranoid over every nut and bolt needing to be replaced at x date on x miles etc at an horrendous cost.

I went for a merc mainly because of their strong diesel engines and overall, reliability.Ive read there are many who have been real sloppy in their approach to having their cras regularly serviced and those go on forever outside of dealership and others just very unlucky.

Mercfan99 - remember disgruntled people will log on immediately and tell the world that they have had.a problem with their Merc, but the millions of people who dont have problems do not rush to write 'still no problems' online - so I wouldnt be worried mate - and even if you are unlucky, well if Mike Brewer can fix it...then anyone can...

Cheers Hotspur. Note what you say and take comfort from the others doing shorter trips. Be good to hear some more positive feedback particularly on older cars.

I'm sure I've said this before, but that's the thing with all forums you get the impression that a particular vehicle can be problematic but as Hotspur says its not the case. However they are great source of info if you do have a problem. :)

I am probably more paranoid than usual on this being its my first Merc, and tried to cover all bases so to speak with faults to look out for servicing costs etc.

I am in a strange situation in that; i am running on a stupidly tight budget and yet, buying a merc. Could have bought another car for 4k and got nowhere near the quality that these give people. Obviously it's a personal preference, so no offence to any Ford lovers etc who may be viewing.

Hey Mercfan99, it is your money, your life and you dont get second chances with either so your choice is never the wrong choice.

In most European countries you will see C, E and S class cars run as taxi's because they age well and can take high usage well if maintained.

In Africa you will find some of the oldest Merc's on the road, still going with galactic mileages and not great service records, but they still keep going...

I had a 1999 CLK - they are great, you will love it.

Hi Hotspur,

Cheers for all that and decided i will be buying the car:). I like your confidence .

Will be taking it for a test drive tomorrow which will be interesting; as i have never driven an auto before. Bit concerned about how to handle it in slow moving traffic, having no clutch etc. Do you know, if it's just a question of brake then drive etc ? wondering how the speed picks up once i hit gas pedal when in slow traffic ?
