Servicing in West Lothian Edinburgh???

Hi everyone.

Have put it off to the last minute as usual, I have been looking around but cannot seem to find a Mercedes Specialist in the area. I have 200 miles to go until the big service and theres no way I want to put it into mercedes dealer for this.

Any help appreciated.

There is Howard-Johnstone cars on Ferry Road in Edinburgh. I have used there and it was very good (0131 553 6276).
Also http://www.deutschmarque.co.uk/ - they have lot of ex-BMW and ex-MB main dealer technicians. Not used them though as I found there sales staff rude and put me off. Meant to be good though

I live in Airdrie and will have the same dilema as you. I am due to pick up my 97 SL320 next week from a trader. I do know that he got it serviced in Western last week to keep the Full Main Dealer history complete. The service carried out was an A one which when I called them to check costs £280. I know through the call to Western that he got it for £180. I'll be angling for this deal when the time comes to service mine.

Also my car was serviced at John Weir in Grangemouth for previous 6 years and having spoke to them they have indicated that they would give discount cause the car is 10yrs old. My friend uses them and says they are much better than big city Merc outlets.

Let me know how you get on as it would be good to get the basic sevicing done by merc to keep the book stamped, however any specialist jobs done by someone more reasonable.

Hi Grant,
John R Weir main dealer is very good, I second Arthur's comments. Deutschemarque have usually quote cheaper, but never quite enough to tempt me away from Weir's. Deutschemarque do offer a curteousy car, and can pick up just like Merc dealers. Worth a try too. They are based walking distance from Kinnaird Park.

Be interesting to see if Western's change their prices when then open that massive facility at the Newbridge roundabout..!

It is a shame that they are closing the Stenhouse service centre for Western Mercedes as it is nice and central to town. It will be a pain having to go out to the new place at Newbridge.

Few people I know have been quoted cheaply by Deutschemarque but by the time they pick it up, has added up well into main dealer money.

I tried deutch marque and am very disappointed with their service overall. They do have trained engineers (apparently) but the customer services is very bad.

The main dealer at stenhouse mill lane is very good. They do charge more, but the service manager is a nice chap. Been going to them for few years now if some serious problem occurs.

I got the last service done at a garage next door to deutch marque. I got all brake pads and discs, oil and filters etc from eurocar part and just got them guys to change them. The main mechanic is a Jaguar enthusiast and is very knowledgable about cars. I know they are not approved mercedes specialists but for me good service (at reasonable price ) matterd more than the stamp on the service book.

I always found Western really good but their new place at Newbridge is a lot harder to find and much further from Edinburgh City Centre. I've been told more than once that the MB agent in Carlise is even better but would also be interested if you find another good MB specialist

Thanks for your replies, I did not read them before putting the car in!! I phoned around a few places and deutch marque could get me in the next day early with the job taking around 2 and a half hours.

I booked it in with a quote of £250 for a type 'B' service. The chap behind the desk asked me 'Is that a diesel??' Afer me telling him it was an ML500 which was a little worrying. After dropping the car off the receptionist drove me to the local retail outlet which was very nice of her. I got a phone call about an hour later telling me that because it was a V8 the cost would be nearer £400 (was actually £465.00). I said that was ok and quickly phoned MB Perth to get a quote from them to compare. They told me that it would be nearly double that figure so I relaxed....

When I picked up the car they noticed that there was a rubber seal which would probably need replaced at the next service and had about 70 percent wear on the brakes. They cleaned the outside of the car, I had been meaning to have the wheels refurbed and used various cleaners on them to no avail but they came back like new!!!

Overall I really cannot complain about the quality of service from either the engineers or the customer staff. The only thing I would suggest is to ask for a more acurate quote on the servicing costs, I believe it was still cheap at this price but if I was hard up this month I wouldnt have been quite so pleased.

Do you know exactly what was done for your £465? Sounds a bit steep to me. I am sure that I have read another thread on this site where a guy down south had a B Service done for £180 from a specialist.

Perhaps rather than using this site for free advertising you could have a read of Post No. 9 above and explain why the quote was so far off and why you didn't realise that an ML500 is not diesel??

Mechanics for my 89 300SL, Lothian

Help! my 300SL is in need of some servicing. I haven't used the car for 12 months now and it badly needs to find someone or some place that could do major service. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
